Winkey

Winkey support sends CW from the logging screen to a K1EL Winkeyer, or something that speaks the same protocol. It is marked experimental on your account, and that badge is accurate. Try it on a quiet afternoon before you trust it in a contest.

Switching it on

Your callsign, Account, the Winkeyer card.

  • Winkeyer Features Enabled. Shows the CW box on the logging screen when the mode is CW.
  • Winkey Web Sockets. Use this with Cloudlog Aurora 2. Aurora talks to the keyer, and Cloudlog talks to Aurora. This is the more reliable of the two.

The other path is the browser itself, over the Web Serial connection. The page has to be https. Chrome and Edge can do it. The keyer sometimes fails to start if nothing else has opened it first. If that happens, start the keyer from another program, then connect from Cloudlog.

On the logging screen

Set the mode to CW. The Winkey box appears. Type into it and send, or use one of the five macro buttons.

If the box never appears, the account switch is off, the mode is not CW, or the page is plain http and you are on the browser path.

CW macros

Macros is the button on the Winkey box. It opens Winkey Macros. There are five rows, F1 to F5. Each row has a button label, up to six characters, and the text to send. Save stores them on your account. The buttons on the logging screen then read F1 (CQ) and so on, using the label you typed.

Press the button, or the matching function key. F1 to F5 send while the logging page is open. The same keys are on the keyboard shortcuts page.

Until you save your own, Cloudlog starts with:

Key Label Sends
F1 CQ CQ CQ CQ DE [MYCALL] [MYCALL] K
F2 REPT [CALL] DE [MYCALL] [RSTS] [RSTS] K
F3 TU [CALL] TU 73 DE [MYCALL] K
F4 QRZ QRZ DE [MYCALL] K
F5 TEST TEST DE [MYCALL] K

Three tokens are filled in as the macro is sent.

  • [MYCALL] is the callsign of the station location.
  • [CALL] is whatever is in the callsign box, in capitals.
  • [RSTS] is the RST you are sending.

Anything else is sent as you typed it. A CQ that should carry your own call uses [MYCALL]. A report to the station you are working uses [CALL] and [RSTS].

Picture needed: winkey.png General Logging with mode CW, the Winkey box visible, and the five macro buttons. A second shot of the Winkey Macros window, with the token note and one row filled in, is worth having. No need to show a connected keyer.
