Station locations

A station location is one place you operate from, with the callsign you use there.

Home is one. A holiday cottage is another. 2M0SQL/P on a summit is a third. Each keeps its own callsign, locator, and power, and the QSOs you log while it is active stay attached to it.

You can keep as many as you like. One of them is the active station. That is the one Cloudlog uses when you press Save QSO.

Create one

Click your callsign at the top right, then Station Locations, then Create a Station Location.

The top of the form is the part you need on the first day.

  • Profile name. A name you will recognise in a list. Home (IO87IP) is a good pattern. The locator in the name saves you opening the location later to check where it was.
  • Station callsign. The call you are using from that place. 2M0SQL at home, 2M0SQL/P out portable. Letters, numbers, and a forward slash are all that is allowed.
  • Station power. Your usual power in watts. A radio connected for CAT can overwrite this when you log.
  • Station DXCC. The country entity for that place. Scotland, England, and Wales are separate entries. Pick the one that matches the station, not the one that matches your licence address if they differ.
  • Station gridsquare. Your locator, for example IO87IP. This box is required. If you are sitting on the station, Get Gridsquare will fill it from the browser, once you allow the location prompt. On a grid line, enter the squares separated by commas, for example IO77,IO78,IO87,IO88.

City is worth filling in. State and county matter for some awards in the USA. Leave them empty if they do not apply to you.

Save the form, then go back to the list and press Set Active on the row you want to use. Cloudlog asks you to confirm. The row is then marked Active Station.

The dashboard keeps a warning up until an active location exists. That warning is the nudge. Once a location is active it goes away.

The rest of the form

Further down are eQSL nicknames, Club Log, the QRZ logbook key, HRDLog, and OQRS. Leave them for now. Each of those has its own page, and none of them are needed to log the first contact.

SOTA, POTA, WWFF, and IOTA references on the location are for when the station itself is on an award reference, such as a summit or a park. They are not the other station's reference. That goes on the QSO.

A few locations, one active

A typical home station ends up with two or three:

  • Home, with the home call and the home locator
  • Portable, with /P and whatever locator you are visiting
  • A contest or special event call, if you use one

Before a session, open Station Locations and set the right one active. QSOs logged after that point use the new location. QSOs already in the log stay on the location that was active when you saved them.

Deleting a location deletes the QSOs stored on it. The button asks you twice for that reason. If you only wanted it out of the way, leave it there and set a different one active.
